Solo

Solo, adventurer
Are you a Solo Traveler?
Don’t be fooled by the title, I don’t mean the movie Solo. I know I should’ve added another word to it but how else do you expect me to grab your attention? Smart, ain’t I? For all the people out there, what is it like to travel solo round the world? I personally haven’t traveled the world over. India is too big a country and there’s much more to explore. Given the chance and the opportunity when I am done traveling in India, I’ll most certainly travel abroad-solo.

Let’s get back to the topic I wanted to talk about: traveling solo. I have traveled long distances across several places and one thing I can say it’s quite an adventure! What is it like to travel alone internationally? I am yet to experience it. To understand what it is like, I scouted for some solo travel bloggers online trying to understand their mind-set.

One of the travel bloggers I ardently follow is Liz of http://youngadventuress.com. She has been solo traveling for year’s altogether and has some very good posts. Hers was the first blog I stumbled across and I am following her (virtually) ever since. She has some nice updates online and a perfect guide if wish to become a travel blogger (and earn). Trust me when I say this: it ain’t for the faint-hearted to venture in to the unknown among complete strangers, but hey, traveling is an adventure, right? Read on. Liz has some nice tips for blogging and traveling and her blog is a must read.

What you actually get from solo travel bloggers is not just guides, travel tips and directions. The bloggers share an experience and it’s their perspective on traveling that helps a great deal. Solo traveling has several benefits to it as well and I don’t think people who travel alone are a stingy lot who don’t wish to share their expenses, they are not selfish either.

Do you remember the song from these lines:
“Oh no not I.
I will survive.
Oh as long as I know how to love
I know I'll stay alive.
I got all my life to live
and I got all my love to give.
and I'll survive. I will survive. hey hey”

For those who aren’t able to guess it, it’s a song from the singer Donna Summer – I will survive. The perspective I’ll take from the lyrics here is not the love from a lover. Here, you can simply love yourself. Make this song your motto. Period.

The major thing to gain is new experiences, overcome your fears, discovering yourself and most importantly – nobody can take away your freedom! (I’m sure you’ve got a mental flashback from Braveheart; that was the idea!) Another benefit that I read across solo traveler’s blogs is it boosts your confidence to a great extent. If you’re not a regular solo traveler then it’s encourage-able to do so at least once a year.

Few of the things I’ve noticed that for Solo travelers the negative aspect of it is they will not be able to split the costs from hotel stays to cab fare. They have to manage things on their own. Traveling for long periods of time can also get lonely. Hell! You can’t even get a second opinion from your imaginary friend!

Anything that you do in life will have some positive and negative aspects. What I have compiled above is just pointers, sort of quick-guide for the ‘wanna-be solo traveler’.

If you have already made up your mind that you absolutely do not wish to be a solo traveler, you might as well check some amazing travel destinations what TravelHot has to offer, (I’ve heard they have some great offers!).

Hill stations in Kashmir

Paradise on Earth, Hill stations
Paradise on Earth
The beauty of the region in Kashmir is well known all over the world. Its pristine natural surroundings, beautiful lakes - the region is also called as ‘Paradise on Earth’. Kashmir truly is a beautiful place to visit. Apart from the quintessential houseboats, little does anyone know it is also home to beautiful hill stations. TravelHot has a number of packages to the Kashmir Valley.

You will find a lot of hill stations to visit throughout the country, the scenic wonder that is Kashmir has much to offer to the ubiquitous traveller. Even if travelling for the very first time, your visit will memorable. The best known of all the hill stations in the valley: Srinagar, Pahalgam and Gulmarg.

This first thing that travellers will notice about this enchanting destination is the climate – which is colder than most parts of the country. Temperature can plummet to -20 degrees. What Srinagar has to offer is the Shankaracharya Temple, Dal Lake and Zabarwan Mountains among many others. You can arrive here at Srinagar International airport, also known as Sheikh ul Alam Airport. You can travel from here to various other part of the valley by road.

Pahalgam is another sought after tourist destination for many. Two things come to mind about this place: one - it is the starting point of Amarnath Yatra. Second- the area is rich in vegetation, natural surroundings and animal life. One of the major reasons to visit Pahalgam during the summer is that it is an off season. You can expect better deals on hotels. The town is well connected to other parts of the valley.

The last hill station on our list is Gulmarg. Like Pahalgam, Gulmarg is also a town and a popular skiing destination. Besides a ski resort, the town has also lots to offer in the form of cable car riding, horse riding, hiking and many more. It may come to you as a surprise that Gulmarg also has the highest golf course of the world.

Whether you are interested in golfing in Kashmir at the highest place or not the valley has a lot to offer. The major attractions of Kashmir common to all the places are its natural beauty. Take advantage of the off season and travel to this destination which is truly a ‘Paradise on Earth!’

Good things about traveling
The dawn of the information age has brought the world closer. Most of us have smart phones connecting us to the world as we go. It’s completely opposite when you actually begin to travel. Traveling is time-consuming and this makes us realize how big the world really is!

Now, the bigger question is why one should travel. Some people tend to forget the immense benefits that traveling brings. One of them is: it helps you to disconnect yourself from your usual life. Traveling occasionally is an excellent stress buster. It does not matter if you travel for short or long distances and I don’t mean traveling to work and back! You can learn a lot about new places and meet new people. You can try various new cuisines and get a feel about the local culture. These are just handful of the benefits you may come across. However, there are many other things, which are different for different people. For example, the benefit that I get when I travel is learning about the new places. There are so many places to see in the world and in the country, one cannot help but wonder. How many places can one see on their lifetime? But, there are some must see places in the world in your itinerary – be it local or international.

Today’s travelers are well-informed: before choosing their destinations they often do a lot of research about the places they want to visit, the cost involved for traveling and feedback or review of those places or the travel agents or both. This in itself expands your knowledge for future travel. You will often recommend travel destinations that you have enjoyed the most to your friends, relatives and colleagues. You share your knowledge among people; some even share their experiences on their profiles on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, etc.  When another person views those pictures on these websites, it further encourages them to visit those places and the process continues. Word of mouth often spreads like wildfire and this is no different when it comes to social media like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, etc.

Where should one travel? It is not easy to answer this question. With so many places to see, where should you begin? Traveling depends on your budget. When you have that part figured out, getting to choose your travel destination will be quite easy. Travel websites are often the best places to visit first to help decide your travel destination. TravelHot will help you plan your destinations; there are many places for you to choose from that will make your vacation truly memorable.

If you are still unsure about traveling, look at the benefits it can give, the new things you can learn when you travel, the memories you will have along with the stories you can share after your return.

Happy Traveling!
