Kaziranga National Park

A visit to a nature reserve is very much different to visiting other places typical on our travel itinerary. A national park or a nature reserve is mostly a one stop place where you get to explore nature at its close proximity. The entire area teems with wildlife, natural surroundings and many bird calls. Kaziranga National Park located in the North Eastern state of Assam is a natural wonder.  This national park as a travel destination is suitable for people of all ages. It’s also perfect destination for couples on honeymoon vacations.

A major tourist attraction especially if you’re a nature buff. This Northern Eastern national park has also been declared as a World Heritage site in by UNSECO.  The park provides a great diversification of wildlife, flora and fauna. Kaziranga National Park is particularly known for its one horned rhinoceros and this park houses the most number of animals of this particular species. The Indian Rhinos are comparable to their African counterparts in size and forms the largest in this species. Mostly herbivore in nature, their natural habitat is around grasslands and around rivers. Rhinos do not have any kind of predators except for the tigers but can offer a formidable confrontation against tigers due to their size.

Sometime during the last decade – the park was also declared as a tiger reserve. The royal Bengal tigers are very majestic in appearance and are best viewed from elephant safaris. The park houses few large animals besides rhinos. They also have tigers, elephants and hoolock gibbons.

Kaziranga National Park also boasts of a vibrant Bird sanctuary. The park is a habitat to several species of birds. Many Bird watchers flock to this place to see these unique bird species that are native to this region and also some migratory species. Travellers wanting to catch a glimpse of these birds can view them in a specially constructed tower. This park has several species of birds like imperial eagle, greater spotted eagle, and white-tailed fishing eagle.

A visit to this park has to be carefully planned since it’s not open throughout the year. One can visit after October and well into April – this is the preferred time for travelling.

A Wildlife tour does not provide too many options as some kind of adjustments and compromises has to be made. Kaziranga does not have any well-known restaurants –food will not be a problem. The local food is very distinct from the rest of the country, rice forms the basic ingredient and the cuisine is mostly non-spicy.

Other place of interest is the massive tea gardens first farmed by the Colonial British. It happens to be a major attraction and tourists often flock to the tea gardens to catch of glimpse of the famous Assam tea.
Kaziranga forms the best getaway destination if one is hungry for some wildlife adventure. Families and couples will have some good memories to bring on their return making sure it will be trip that they’ll never forget.

Honeymooning destinations

honeymoon destinations, Travel guide

Congratulations! Now that you’re married, you get another challenge – your honeymoon destination. Lucky for those who have planned it before hand but I’m sure there a few of us (like me) who actually gave it a few days of together-planning post-marriage to decide on the best destinations.  If you search the net you’ll many recommended places, even blog-posts and articles. But, honeymooning is very subjective and you might read many articles and check out destinations virtually.  It will never be easy to decide since most of the places are already good. It’s not the good that you seek but the best. Let me present to you a suitable guide that will help you to decide.

Most of you may have visited several sites on the net – short listing and discussing destinations with your fiancĂ© about potential places. Taj Mahal – the tomb or rather the monument of love will amplify your love for each other especially on your first visit. Certainly your visit to the Taj Mahal is going to be very symbolic but this is a thing of the past. India as country boasts of so many honeymoon destinations that you won’t be able to count them on your fingertips!

Amongst the places that are best visited, I will be short listing some popular destinations and the benefits as well. You can then make your choice and book your travels accordingly.

The first on the list is Kerala. The backwaters of Kerala offer great viewing of the coastlines and some marvelous destinations that you’ll reminisce throughout your life. Why have I put Kerala on the top is not because of personal experience but it is currently considered the hottest honeymoon destinations. Why? Well, for starters you can take a cruise in houseboat in Munnar. After you’ve landed it the houseboat, you’ll get an opportunity to cruise down the back waters – exploring as you go – you’ll enjoy some of the best cruises the tour has to offer. The food, people and the places are great and worth it’s time and stay.
Moving up towards the North East –Kaziranga National Park is mostly frequented by honeymooners. The pristine surrounding and natural places will put you in awe. This Natioanl Park is known for rhinoceros. Elephant safari and Jeep safari will help you explore the jungle and view the splendour the Park has to offer. You can also try the local food which will not be a disappointment. The local food is unlike anything that you have tried in other parts of the country. The climate here is cool and atmosphere is pleasant. A visit to a National Park ha s lot to offer for adventure seeking couples.

India offers various options and if your desire of moving to cooler climates is the need of the hour – you could also consider short listing Laddakh in your travel plans. Laddhakh offers cooler climate, massive snow-capped mountains. One can enjoy camel safaris and visit prominent tourist places like Shey, Thiksey, Hemis and Sindhu Ghat.

The list for honeymoon destinations isn’t exhaustive but the most prominent and well-known destinations in the country. Ask yourself what it you’re looking for in a travel destination? Asking this question and a mutual decision will make sure you have long lasting memories for all time to come.

Shopping in the North-East

North east tour package, North East,
What is traveling without shopping? Nothing! It’s worth buying a few souvenirs that will jog your memories for years to reminiscence your visit. One has to be utmost careful when shopping at travel destinations as it’s not your home town where you can simply splurge! The North-East offers a lot of places where you can visit to full fill your shopping wish and it will not need to burn a hole in your pocket. When traveling to a destination, the items for sale and discounts presented by the shop keepers may seem enticing enough, but not discouraging enough to stop you from buying. If you have cash to burn, then it’s a different matter altogether.TravelHot.in offers some amazing travel packages to the North-East.

The most attractive and the most eye-catching of all the shopping items on your list will surely be –handicrafts. Gangtok has many souvenir shops and Lal Bazaar is the best place for shopping. Bargain hard before buying any handicrafts and souvenirs, they are worth it. MG road presents souvenirs on a pricey side and no bargaining is encouraged here. Travellers will find many things to buy besides handicrafts; they will also find bamboo products, wood carvings. If clothing is of any interest to you I would strongly recommend you to buy some traditional Sikkim’s wear or any dresses that have traditional designs printed on them. You can also buy some Buddhist artifacts as well.

The next of the list of shopping destinations in the North-East is Darjeeling. Suggested items to buy when in this pristine Hill station are thangka – Tibtiean Paintings, Nepali Khukri and some brass objects. When in Darjeeling visit shopping places like: Chowk bazaar, Chowrasta and Mahakal Market.   In Darjeeling, there will be many stores that sell variety of items – it’s the most visited place in the country for tourists. Subtle areas of interest which travelers will find are handlooms, jackets, saris, shawls and many more such items.

Lachung may not offer many options for shopping but there are things that will make you want to buy.

Travelers will find local souvenirs, woolen clothing and few things that will be of little interest to you. Why did I recommend it? There are a few things like jewellery items and accessories.  Lachung is a cold place and it offers a good choice when it comes to winter wear. The choices here may not be that great but there’s something for everyone.

Whenever one travels to different destinations, it is important to get carried away with the shopping. Shopping can be time consuming and making judicious use of the time allotted is the best thing what one should do. Travel itinerary is usual time bound, and if coming in a group one person’s time may not be accommodated in the other one’s schedule. These are the simple things that one should bear in mind to make sure a vacation is enjoyable and enough time has to be devoted to the other activities like sightseeing, shopping, eating, get acquainted with the local culture and many more.

The state of Karnataka was ruled by dynasties in the past. These eleven dynasties gave a distinctive identity to the culture synonymous with the state.

The first thing that comes to anyone’s mind when thinking about Karnataka is Bangalore – the Silicon Valley of India. Contrary to popular belief, one may not expect to see much in a bristling metropolis like Bangalore. The opposite is true when you come across places like: Lal Bagh which houses the famous glass house, Tipu Sultan’s Palace, HAL Aerospace Museum, Bangalore Aquarium and many more. Bangalore has a mix of both for the first time traveller, a fascinating intertwining of the old and the new.

Monsoon in Goa
The first and the foremost enticing thing about the monsoon in Goa is it’s the off season time. Hotel rooms costs way less than during the peak season – so it’ll be easy on your pocket. You will be able to concentrate your expenses on other or more important things like food. Speaking of food, sea-food tastes best in the monsoon in Goa. In fact, if you love sea-food then there’s no better place in the country to taste the best than in Goa. Period. You can gorge on a variety of sea food like fried mussel, crab curry, Goan fish curry just to name a few. If sea-food is not your thing then one must definitely try Chicken Xacuti.

The scenic beauty of Goa comes alive with the monsoon and forms an amazing leisure vacation. The greenery is lit up - literally with grown rice paddy, lush green fields and mountains. Strongly recommended to visit Dudhsagar falls as this is the time of the year when the rivers are flowing to the brim. The roads are clear of dirt and dust as they get washed in the rains and one can enjoy clean roads and beautiful surroundings all around.

Dudhsagar, Goa rains, goa package
Dudhsagar Falls,
The rain brings a distinct feeling, if you’re a rain-lover you’ll know what I’m talking about. Goa is a rain-lover’s paradise and if you love rains then you’ll also agree that it’s one of the most romantic seasons. Beeches will typically be less crowded as it usually is during the peak season post September. The lesser crowd will encourage you to explore the beech taking your own sweet time without the risk of accidently bumping into somebody! Weather permitting you can also chill around a bonfire with a nice cold beer. Rent a bike to for a long drive, if you negotiate hard, you’ll get a good bargain on bike rents during the off-season. Take a ride in the rains and feel the drops of water splash down on your face.

June and July is festival time in Goa. Goans participate in two major festivals held during these two months. The feast of Sao Joao (St. John the Baptist) is celebrated in the month of June and the festival of St. Peter is celebrated in the following month. Both of these festivals are distinct and are celebrated with much gusto.
If you’re a party animal at heart and are waiting to unleash the beast within then the monsoon visit will not be disappointing. Goa has the most happening party scenes at Mambo’s, Tito’s and popular night clubs like Love Passion Karma located in Candolim. A quick getaway to Goa for the nocturnal party animal is the best place to visit in the monsoon.

And before I forget let me add another reason to visit this place is the Spice Plantations. When someone thinks of spice gardens or plantations – Kerala might be the first thing that may pop in your head. But associating spice plantations with global tourist destination like Goa sounds a little off. Hard as it may sound but it’s true. Goa boasts of some popular spice plantations. Go for a guided tour for a richer experience to these plantations. Some of the places also offer accommodations if it’s to your liking.

Goa offers the richest experience if you love travelling in the monsoon. The low prices in the off season add further excitement and savings as well. If rains are your thing then Goa is the place to go. A word of caution, do check all the prices when planning your trip.

What I like about travelling in India

Blog, traveling, best thing about traveling
It’s that time of the year again when the summer simmers and you have to figure where to head for a vacation. You will find ample of destinations to choose from and in fact you may have stumbled upon my post as you were searching for some amazing travel destinations, right? Now that you’re here you may be wondering what to expect. Well then, the introduction may not be presentable in any way for now for that you have to read the entire post, that’s how you will get an idea what am I trying to say. Let me be frank here, this isn’t a ranting or sort.

Gustave Flaubert has rightly said “Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.” This line is especially true when your smart phone makes the world smaller, but when you actually begin to travel you’ll realize how big the world is. Sometimes it takes hours to reach your destination and sometimes it may even take days. Traveling is like an adventure and time is also a part of it. Depending on how you usually go on a vacation, you’ll notice the world passing behind you. Your destination inches closer and closer and the time to reach lessen. You see new surroundings, make new friends and even try the local cuisine. I had this wish that when I travel to the south of India I will the sought after south Indian delicacy – Chicken Chettinad. It is spicy chicken gravy eaten along with rice, Indian bread or the usual white/brown bread. Personally, I prefer to have it with Cummin (jeera) Rice.

When I did reach Kerala– God’s own country, that was the first thing I tried and I loved it. Since I am a foodie, food is what keeps me going when I travel long distance – the taste that smears my palette, the strong flavors and all. So when I do travel, local food is one thing that excites me. That alone is not my purpose, visiting never- before seen locations is a totally different experience all together. Don’t believe me? I bet you must have seen various photos of the iconic Taj Mahal on TV, Internet and newspapers. Now try visiting the Taj Mahal in person. Trust me when I say this, the experience of actually seeing this iconic monument offers a totally different experience that will prompt you to appreciate Shah Jahan ’s masterpiece. Looking at the photos of the destinations and actually visiting them is totally different. It is much similar to actually looking at the cars on the road and actually driving one. These are two completely different things, I’m sure you’ll agree.

Traveling is not only an adventure; it’s also the experience that comes with it. The learning that is associated with it comes with the journey and adds to the experience. For example, when I had visited Mahableshwar, I realized that most of the hotels and restaurants are vegetarian and non-vegetarian restaurants are very few. In other words, I would definitely recommend this hill station to vegetarians, right? Wrong. Let me ask you a question: be it vegetarian or non-vegetarian food, does it actually matter? It doesn’t for me. I know some people (like my wife) are hell-bent on choosing their destination on the basis of what food they provide.

For a person like me why I like traveling is because of the experience it offers me and the impression it imprints on my mind about the place, the people, the food, the surrounding and many other things that comes with it. So next time when you decide on traveling, don’t go for the sake of going there. Go for the experience, for the adventure. Plan your adventure well and share it. You will appreciate the joy that you will receive. Just in case if you’re wondering if we did manage to find a hotel that serves non-vegetarian food, then yes, we did find one.

Splendid Northeast – A Brief Guide

When you think about the Northeast, probably, two things will come to your mind. One of them might be Cherapunji, the only place in the country to receive the highest rainfall also called as the wettest place on Earth and Kaziranga National Park. The Northeast offers much more than these two places from all the seven states present in this region. The weather offers beautiful natural locations like national parks, lakes and many tourist locations. The North East, although situated at one corner of the country, it offers some great leisure vacations.

Northeast does not fail when it comes to impressing tourists with the natural beauty of the surrounding, the cuisines, the culture, diversity and many other things that make this place truly unique. The first thing that will catch your eyes is the sprawling greenery. If nature is more towards your liking, take a visit to a good number of national parks. The famous Kaziranga National Park is present it the state of Assam. It is designated as a World Heritage site and hosts two-thirds of the one-horned Rhinoceros.

Travellers will find plenty of lakes in the Northeast and some of them also provide a fascinating and exotic view. For example, Gurudongmar Lake in the state of Sikkim is the highest lake in the world.

Tour of the tribal areas and getting acquainted with their lifestyle offers an experience where no other part of the country will provide. When visiting the tribes, you will often pass through breathtaking scenery. Nagaland is the tribal heartland of this region. Inhabited by the Nagas, there are 16 major tribes in Nagaland each one of them with their distinct culture, traditions and even language.

Arunachal Pradesh – bordering China has abundance of wildlife. It is also home to some rare species that are native to this state like the clouded leopard, Golden Cat etc. The Tawang Monastery is the largest in the world and has some old Buddhist scriptures. The view from this Monastary offers a breathtaking view of the natural surroundings.

Have you thought of any adventure sports? If you change your mind and you so desire for one, Arunachal Pradesh provides you with Rafting on the Siang River.

North-eastern festivals are colourful and any festivities in the region are celebrated with much fanfare. Here you can do two things either watch and enjoy or participate and enjoy more. You must have witnessed boat races in Kerala and may be even in the Asian countries. You will be mighty surprised to know that Sualkuchi in Assam also conducts boat races. Massive crowd gathers during the races cheering their teams to win. When you arrive in Manipur, be sure to visit Loktak Lake which also happens to be the world’s only floating late. You can take a boat ride here to view the pristine surroundings.

Dzkou Valley is another location filled with natural surroundings. The best places to visit are in the summer. In the summer the valley blooms with various species of flowers.

The Northeast part of the country is an unexplored part. The major reasons are only because it located to one corner of the country. Your visit to this region unlocks much uniqueness it has to offer. Apart from the natural beauty, the colourful festivals you take back with you a lot of learning about another travel destination in Incredible India.

Whether you have or have not been to Dubai for vacation, one thing to certainly strike your mind is BurjAl-Arab - it’s the most expensive hotel in the world boasting luxuries only the super-rich could afford! The most astonishing part of this hotel is that it’s built on an artificial island extending some distance from the main shoreline. The building is impressively designed making it one of the iconic structures of the global city. The titles that are given to iconic buildings does not stay that long. Much similar to record-breaking in sports when once record is broken there is always some else ready to break it and achieve a record. So is the case with iconic structures. Previously many travellers would easily associate Burj Al-Arab Hotel with Dubai, the building would have seldom known that it is soon to find company. Burj Khalifa – completed in 2009, is the tallest building in the world. Seeing this building personally from the ground up is certain to sprain your neck – see it with caution!
